Queen of the Philippines 2019 candidate Gretchen Custodio Diez was detained, arrested and handcuffed after trying to use the female restroom of Farmers Market Cubao.
Gretchen 28, a Filipina transwoman and human resource director in a call center agency.
After very long proceedings which included being detained at the Admin office of Farmers Market, to PNP Camp Caringal, Miss Diez was finally released through the intervention of Cong. Geraldine Roman and officials of Queen of the Philippines.
Although she got an apology letter, she will still continue legal proceedings against the staff of Farmers Market who detained and physically assaulted her.
Quezon City has an Anti-Discrimination Bill in effect which also protects the LGBT
community.
In 2014, the Quezon City government passed an anti-discrimination ordinance which makes it illegal for business establishments to discriminate people based on their sexual orientation.
